Lessons Learned Over a Lifetime of Law Enforcement
Tom Long (Retired Chief)
Tom Long is a law enforcement veteran, having retired in 2016 with thirty-eight years of service. He has been a firearms and tactical combat/SWAT instructor for the past thirty-five years. Tom is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has completed thousands of hours of police training. At the time he retired, he was the longest-serving Police Chief in Mississippi, with 26 years of service. He is a past President of the Mississippi Tactical Officers Association and the Memphis Metropolitan Association of Chiefs of Police. He is a recognized law enforcement expert in police firearms, pursuits, policy, and procedure at the local, state, and federal court levels. As part of an advanced teaching cadre or as an individual Instructor, Tom has taught thousands of military Special Forces personnel and Federal, State, and local Law Enforcement officers from around the world. He is the author of two books dealing with firearms instruction and law enforcement leadership.
Jabo Long with Guild Solutions Group
Jabo began his Law Enforcement career in 1997 with a large agency in one of the nation's most violent criminal areas. In 2002, he was selected for his agency's full-time Tactical Unit (S.W.A.T.). He served there for 17 years in various roles, gaining experience as an instructor, K9 handler, sniper, and, eventually, the team's assistant commander. In 2019, he was transferred to the Narcotics Division, where he led several Special Investigative Units. He also served as a Bomb Technician for 13 years, earning several specialty designations, including completion of the Tactical Bomb Technician program. His last duty assignment was as the Assistant Range Commander of the Firearms Training Unit. He retired on December 1, 2022, after over 25 years of service. He is a nationally sought-after instructor and the Director of Training for the Guild Solutions Group.
