Blast Over Pressure A Deeper Look & Health Beyond It
Jerry Smith with DMPG & Guild Solutions Group
Smith has over 25 years of experience in munitions design, development, testing, evaluation/qualification, fabrication, and fielding. Throughout his career, he has been an innovator and a creator. Smith played a significant role in notable development and game-changing programs. He was the principal mechanical designer of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), designer of the GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) tail kit, and chief designer of the BLU-137/B advanced 2,000-lb penetrator warhead. Smith provided design oversight & mentoring for the GBU-69/B Small Glide Munition (SGM) development effort. He is listed as an inventor on the patent and as the principal investigator for the Arming Generator Relocator Adaptor (AGRA) fuze arming system and other special programs of record. Having participated in several weapon development programs, he is experienced in testing, evaluating, and qualifying weapons systems – both at the systems level and discreet component qualification efforts, with post-test forensics being a specialty. He spent years developing special programs for the intelligence community in the area of Foreign Materials Exploitation (FME) and is well-versed in establishing & executing hardware mensuration and characterization programs. His extensive commitment to advancing defense munitions technology has earned him a reputation as a leader and game-changer in munitions technology. Smith regularly provides courses of instruction, including tactical considerations of blast overpressure, to multiple US SOF ODAs and other SOF units worldwide. Furthermore, Smith was a reserve deputy for 15 years with one of the most active law enforcement agencies in the State of Alabama. Smith was exclusively assigned to that agency’s SWAT unit for 12+ years, during which he became proficient and certified in explosive, mechanical, and ballistic breaching and participated in hundreds of operations. Smith’s main functions within Guild Solutions Group are directing procurement operations, DOD Energetic Awareness and Safety Operations, securing Gov. contracts, and assisting with technical and tactical breaching training.
Corey & Peyton with ROE Labs
Corey:
Corey Russell is a former U.S. Army Special Forces medic (18D) who served with 5th and 19th Special Forces Groups. He holds a BA in Chemistry from St. Olaf College and is currently pursuing his MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Before enlisting, Corey coached and managed a strength and conditioning gym in Dallas, where he first developed a deep focus on performance, recovery, and long-term readiness.
Today, he is the founder of ROE Labs, building science-backed supplements to support brain health for high-impact professionals (military, law enforcement, and tactical athletes), starting with the supplement he wishes he had while in uniform. Corey’s work focuses on practical, operator-relevant methods for understanding risk, establishing baselines, and improving long-term health outcomes in environments where blast exposure and repeated impacts are part of the job.
Peyton:
Peyton is a former Green Beret medic (18D) who served in the 10th Special Forces Group. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Computational Biology at Weill Cornell. With a deep interest in science and technology, Peyton focuses on how biological systems drive performance, recovery, and long-term health. He co-founded ROE Labs to translate that curiosity into practical, science-driven tools that protect the brain over the long term. Outside of ROE Labs, Peyton works at a defense tech firm and attempts to stay alive on the jiu-jitsu mats.
