Jon Vaala

Regional Instructor
Jon dedicated 27 years to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in Aurora, Colorado, retiring in September 2023. Throughout his tenure with ACSO, he served in various roles, including Detentions, Patrol, Investigations, and Internal Affairs. His Special Operations experience encompassed 24 years on the Bomb Squad and 16 years as a SWAT breacher. During this time, Jon executed hundreds of SWAT missions and nearly a thousand Bomb Squad missions, responding to significant incidents such as the Aurora Theater Shooting and two school shootings. He was honored with the Medal of Distinction, the second-highest award for valor, for his actions during a barricade situation and receiving a Meritorious Service Ribbon from the Aurora Police Department for a hostage rescue. Jon was a certified firearms instructor through the County Sheriffs of Colorado and held certifications as a POST-certified FTO and trainer. He is deeply passionate about promoting health and wellness within the Bomb Technician and Breaching Communities.
