Jerry Smith

Smith has over 25 years of munitions design, development, test & evaluation/qualification, fabrication, and fielding experience. Throughout his career, he has been an innovator and a creator. Smith played a significant role in notable development and game-changing programs. He was the principal mechanical designer of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), designer of the GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) tail kit, and chief designer of the BLU-137/B advanced 2,000-lb penetrator warhead. Smith provided design oversight & mentoring for the GBU-69/B Small Glide Munition (SGM) development effort. He is listed as an inventor on the patent and principal investigator of the Arming Generator Relocator Adaptor (AGRA) fuze arming system and other special programs of record. Having participated in several weapon development programs, he is experienced in testing, evaluating, and qualifying weapons systems – both at the systems level and discreet component qualification efforts, with post-test forensics being a specialty. He spent years working on special programs for the intelligence communities in the area of Foreign Materials Exploitation (FME) and is well-versed in establishing & executing hardware mensuration and characterization programs. His extensive commitment to advancing defense munitions technology has earned him a reputation as a munition technology leader and game-changer. Smith regularly provides courses of instruction, including tactical considerations of blast overpressure, to multiple US SOF ODAs and other SOF units worldwide. Furthermore, Smith was a reserve deputy for 15 years with one of the most active Alabama Law Enforcement agencies within the State of Alabama. Smith was exclusively assigned to that agency’s SWAT unit for 12+ years, where he became proficient and certified in explosive, mechanical, and ballistic breaching, participating in hundreds of operations. Smith’s main functions within Guild Solutions Group are directing procurement operations, DOD Energetic Awareness and Safety Operations, securing Gov. contracts, and assisting with technical and tactical breaching training.
